Comms Routines > Updated fans on an art development

Guidelines

This routine relates closely to other "updated fans" routines

The difference is the nature of the news. Is it about art, business or merch?

We need variation and some consistency like three strands of a plait. On the most obvious level, different colours, tones or shapes might work. It would be fun to make it something subtle that once you're aware of it you can't deny the pattern but also something that isn't immediately obvious.

So three variants in the templates for these

We should share a template across all routines, because things like the Instagram wall pattern need all the different updates working together, but with variants built in and named after "art", "business" and "merch" so that they have enough cohesion amongst themselves to form a strand.

All "updated fans" routines work as a series

No need to say everything all at once. Assuming people have the easy option to pull back and look at the series, we can use updates to go into a the details of the bigger, general picture.

Don't be bland

I've received examples of email where the update isn't really interesting and I can't remember why I'm on their list. We will prepare many times more updates than we send out. The quality gate should keep out anything boring or lacking in flavour.

Don't be isolated

Make sure there's enough information surrounding the main topic to jog the memory of anyone who has forgotten who we are.

So what makes art different from business and merch

For me it's sacred. I don't like to muddy it with money or favouritism or any of that competative mind-set that you adopt when you wash your head in good business sense.

No, art should be free to whoever is interested and is benefiting from it.

Dog (2023) right here

No money-lenders, no rush, no fame

Keep it pure like the moon's reflection in clear water.

Geometric and harmonious

Carefully measured and cropped.
